Fire Is Never A Gentle Master
So sad!
Our favorite beautiful lovely Aberdeen Museum of History interior and exhibits have been completely burned down in a fire on June 9, 2018.
We visited it on July 11, 2015 on the way to Lake Quinault where our friends were camping.
It had a mechanical piano, a phone booth, an old school punishment card, and many more fascinating exhibits.
Also, an amazing collection of old fire engines, ironically. Just take a look at the photos and videos below to appreciate this whole lost world.
An extremely uncomplicated map of Asia -- just 6 empires and 4 outbacks:
A school punishment card, with number of lashes for each transgression, just adorable:
Naomi finds this school punishment card irresistibly fascinating:
A whole 19 century fire department, ironically, has been burned in the 21 century fire:
Inside a phone booth, a weird contraption people used instead of simply whipping out a smartphone:
Separation of state and church was a process. As was moving away from monarchy:
This steampunk chrome sphere holds water for the fire engine:
A childhood dream comes true:
Aberdeen girls showcase wooden swimsuits to advertise local logging. I'm sold!
All this beauty has been lost in the June 9, 2018 fire:
The sad, heartbreaking result:
Only the concrete outer wall survive, all interior and exhibits are gone.
The June 15, 2018 Seattle Times article about the fire was written by Erik Lacitis (who wrote that seminal article about Naomi), in a fittingly mournful style:
