Oyster Bay Inn Classic

"Olympic" Championship
The Oyster Bay Inn Classic is an unofficial Olympic Peninsula Chess Championship.  It was played on October 6-7, 2012 in Oyster Bay Inn, Bremerton, WA.

We went so that Naomi could hone her skills before the World Youth Chess Championship in Maribor, Slovenia next month, and also for some weekend relaxation.

Day 1

Naomi played in Round 1 with Richard Golden -- who took her unforgettable Northwest Chess magazine cover photo at the Silverdale Beach Hotel Classic chess tournament 3 years ago, in October 2009.  That tournament was covered in the December 2009 issue of Northwest Chess.

And now, 3 years later, Richard Golden gets to play chess with the object of his photographic prowess:

Meanwhile we drove around and enjoyed nice waterway vistas:

Day 2

Next day we went to see Illahee State Park, the Bremerton boardwalk and the USS Turner Joy anchored nearby.  The battleship’s engine rooms are the sight to admire:

The night ferry approach to Seattle waterfront has been spectacular as always.
